Biogas is the most environmentally friendly fuel for vehicles. When used as an automotive fuel, biogas is cleaned to a level of 97% methane. One cubic meter of clean biogas is approximately the same as one liter of gasoline. A person driving 15,000 kilometers per year contributes to a reduction in fossil carbon dioxide emissions of 3,600 kg per year.
Biogas is part of nature's circulation and therefore the net contribution of carbon dioxide in the air is zero. It is an ideal fuel also because it can be produced in the same area where it is consumed. Biogas is free of sulphur and other hazardous components, leaving the exhaust gases as clean and odorless as possible. Motors designed for normal gasoline are easy to adapt for biofuel operation.
Cars, buses and trucks designed to run on both biogas and gasoline have been produced and used for years and the network for biofuel stations is growing fast.
Biogas is produced biologically and locally from waste materials which were previously dumped to landfills. This is why biogas is the most environmentally friendly motor fuel.
The advantages of Biogas:
- Renewable energy source
- Security of energy supply from local production
- Sustainable environment locally, and globally
